125.990 Patient Empowerment
The Medical Society of the State of New York support pilot projects in Bronx County, or other counties with historically poor health outcomes, for Patient Empowerment Initiatives with the objective to help eliminate disparities in health outcomes including higher morbidity and mortality from many diseases such as COVID-19, heart disease, cancers, lung disease, and maternal/infant mortality. The Patient Empowerment Initiative should include the creation of patient education and consent materials directed towards people with limited health literacy, including but not limited to individuals with low English or non-English proficiency, as well as people who may have vision, hearing, or other disabilities.
