292.995 Marijuana Research
The Medical Society of the State of New York will urge New York State to:
-support basic and clinical research into medical marijuana so that medical evidence supports all qualifying conditions and that the state create a funding mechanism for advancing said research, and
-create a database to monitor the safety and adverse effects of medical marijuana products on both intended and unintended users, and
-provide public education regarding the medical evidence for medical marijuana, and
-provide guidance to physicians regarding counseling patients who present for medical care requesting medical marijuana products. (HOD 2020 156)
292.996 Use of Pressure-Guided Treatment for Heart Failure
The Medical Society of the State of New York supports studying new technologies targeting pressure guided treatment for heart failure. (HOD 2018-68)
292.997 Mandated Use of a Face Mask by those Not Receiving a Flu Shot
MSSNY will request that the New York State Department of Health conduct an evidence-based review of the hospital regulations on masks in preventing the transmission of influenza. (HOD 2017-169)
292.998 Sickle Cell Anemia Research and Management Funding
MSSNY will work with the New York State Department of Health to sustain a funding increase for Sickle Cell Anemia research and management. (HOD 2017-168)
292.999 Stem Cell Research:
MSSNY support biomedical research on multi-potent stem cells (including adult and cord blood stem cells) and the use of somatic cell nuclear transfer technology in biomedical research (therapeutic cloning). MSSNY oppose the use of somatic cell nuclear transfer technology for the specific purpose of producing a human child (reproductive cloning). MSSNY encourage strong public support of federal funding for research involving human pluripotent stem cells. MSSNY will continue to monitor developments in stem cell research and the use of somatic cell nuclear transfer technology. (HOD 2005-151; Reaffirmed HOD 2015; Reaffirmed HOD 2025)
